There's a new development fight in Greenwood over the multi-million dollar Iceplex proposed by a group led by the Indy Fuel hockey team. The recreational hockey and skating facility is getting a frosty reception from neighbors who live near where it would be built.

Drum Enchanted Evening Concert At Vincennes University March 30

March 27 will be "Drum Enchanted Evening" as the Vincennes University Department of Music presents a concert featuring the VU Percussion Ensemble and guest performers from Indiana State University, Sean Cook and Zakk Huff. The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. at VU's Red Skelton Performing Arts Center.

Parents arrested after using heroin

Two parents were arrested after police said a Greenwood mother overdosed on heroin and had to be revived by medics while her daughter was sitting nearby in a highchair. Hanna Richards, 19, of Greenwood, and Brandon Deblaso, 20, of Lafayette, were arrested on charges of neglect of a dependent, possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia.

Kroger, 970 U.S. 31 North: A loss prevention officer reported at 6:49 p.m. Friday that a man attempted to steal nearly $200 in electronic devices. He was arrested.

Seeds of growth

When a local entrepreneur was looking for a place to invest in by becoming a downtown landlord, the recent improvements to downtown Greenwood development caught his attention. Isaac Brewer is spending $150,000 to purchase a former salon on Main Street and will use a city grant program created last year to make exterior improvements to the building, which he intends to lease to a local business.

Commonwealth Engineers Inc. received a State Finalist award for engineering excellence from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Indiana.The award was made in recognition of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Improvements Project for the Southwestern Consolidated School District. This award is made each year by ACEC Indiana to recognize an outstanding engineering achievement that demonstrates merit and ingenuity.

Pedestrian killed in accident on U.S. 31

A woman stepped out into traffic late Friday night in Greenwood and was hit by a vehicle and killed, police said. Theresa Jean Shaffer, 53, Indianapolis, was killed in the accident at U.S. 31 and Main Street about 10 p.m. Friday, Greenwood police said in a news release.

Donald Jeffrey "Jeff" Dugan, 58, of Columbus, died at 7:28 p.m. March 15, 2017, at Kindred Hospital Indianapolis South in Greenwood. He is survived by his father, Donald G. Dugan of Edinburgh; wife, Debra Ault Dugan of Columbus; daughters, Whitni Dugan of Nineveh, and Katelyn Dugan of Edinburgh; sisters, Dina Gossman and Dawna Dugan, both of Perry, Georgia; a brother, Dan Dugan of Bargersville; and four grandchildren.

October crash hasn't dulled man's love for racing

On Oct. 27, the longtime Center Grove resident and local automobile dealer was injured in an accident during a drag racing qualifier at the National Hot Rod Association Toyota Nationals in Las Vegas. He was hospitalized for two days with broken bones and deep bruising, but the 75-year-old was talking about an immediate return to racing.

Indy man arrested in robbery case

An Indianapolis man was arrested Wednesday after police said he and another man robbed a Greenwood restaurant at gunpoint two weeks ago. Just before 11 p.m. March 6, two men came into Waffle House, located at 1069 E. Main Street, just off Emerson Avenue, stole cash and ran, according a Greenwood Police Department report.

Greenwood man sentenced to 41 months for $2.7M embezzlement scheme

A former project manager accused of defrauding one of the city's largest construction contractors has been sentenced to 41 months in federal prison, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced Thursday morning.
