Homeschooled robotics team ready to defend their title at Tech Challenge Championship WRTV Indianapolis GREENWOOD, Ind. - A group of homeschooled students from Greenwood will defend their title this weekend in the Tech Challenge Championship at Crawfordsville High School.

Two people in custody will face additional charges after authorities say they attempted to bring drugs into jail with them. Deborah Daniel, 49, faces preliminary misdemeanor charges that include driving while suspended, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia, as well as a felony charge of possession of methamphetamine.

Future vision: City redevelopment commission adds more projects

When future visitors arrive in Greenwood, city officials want them to be greeted by a revitalized downtown with sidewalks and trails for pedestrians and bicyclists, more places to eat, shop and live, new and redesigned streets and additional places to park. That's the vision Greenwood Mayor Mark Myers has for the downtown area, and a city board has taken the first steps to make more than $35 million in projects eligible to receive tax dollars.

Statehouse 2017: Where legislation stands

More than a month into this year's legislative session, here is a look at where some key pieces of legislation stand: A proposal by State Rep. Woody Burton, a Republican who represents parts of Johnson County, would allow a city or town to approve an up to 1 percent food and beverage tax to pay for local expenses. Greenwood officials have been asking for a local food and beverage tax, with the money going to local expenses, such as the police department.

Emkes announces retirement

Johnson County's longest-serving judge has decided to resign from her post in Superior Court 2, where she has overseen hundreds of trials and issued sentences on crimes ranging from drunk driving to death penalty cases. Superior Court 2 Judge Cynthia Emkes will resign effective April 28, with nearly four years left in her term.

Third business gets grant for downtown upgrades

A third business owner has asked a city board for tax dollars to revitalize his downtown Greenwood building, with a new door, windows and landscaping. Dr. Jeremy Roscoe has already renovated the inside of a building off Madison Avenue to open Clown Pediatrics, where he, another physician and three nurse practitioners will see patients.

Christopher Carson Milner, 34, 1199 Hospital Road Lot 36, Franklin; arrested on a charge of failing to stop after an accident; held on $250 bond. Joseph Matthew Eakle, 25, 1199 Hospital Road, Lot 267, Franklin; arrested on charges of contempt of court and probation revocation; held on $1,500 bond.

Greenwood man killed in accident

Nathaniel L. Kuniej, 24, died after his vehicle went off the road on Saddle Club Drive, north of Smokey Row Road. The accident happened at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Shops coming to Main Street, Graham Road intersection

A big box retailer and up to five additional restaurants or shops are planned along Main Street on the east side of Interstate 65 in Greenwood. ETB Precedent Partners, a group of three businessmen, plans to develop 19 acres of land on the southeast corner of Main Street and Graham Road and is requesting funding from the Greenwood Redevelopment Commission to make improvements to the property.

Jena was born Sunday, July 19, 1931, in Franklin to Ralph Gordon Steinbarger and Twanetta Irene Weddle Steinbarger. On Dec. 31, 1954, she married the love of her life, William Woessner who preceded her in death in 2015.

Allen D. Skaggs

He is survived by his wife, Burnetta Skaggs of Nineveh; three children, Rebecca Hendley of Princes Lakes, Tim Adkins of North Carolina and Allen Lee Skaggs of Indianapolis; two sisters, Gail McQueen of Edinburgh and Lisa Romans of Georgia, one brother, Richard Skaggs of Greenwood; and six grandchildren. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel, 729 N. U.S. 31. A visitation will be conducted from 11 a.m. until the time of the service, at the funeral home.

KKK flyer found in Greenwood

A flyer expressing Ku Klux Klan beliefs was found on a car in the parking lot of a Greenwood apartment complex the same day that similar flyers were found at Franklin College. Greenwood police responded just after 3 p.m. Tuesday to a report of a flyer asking people to join the KKK that was left on the windshield of a car at Emerald Lakes Apartments, off Sheek Road, south of Main Street.
