As leaders of the two primary bodies charged with driving and facilitating economic development in Greenwood, we are writing to profess our unified, unequivocal opposition to Greenwood City Council Ordinance 17-22. This ordinance is a dangerous step in the wrong direction for Greenwood's economy.

Marsh closing all in-store pharmacies

The pharmacy inside the Marsh Supermarket on State Road 135 in Greenwood will close next week as the grocery store chain made the decision to close all in-store pharmacies to cut costs. The Greenwood store is at 2904 S. State Road 135 and includes one of the company's 37 pharmacies in its 64 stores, according to its website.

Officials scramble over bill

Officials are scrambling to pass local laws that will allow them to keep some control over where poles that serve as cellphone signal boosters are installed on streets and in neighborhoods due to a new state law. Gov. Eric Holcomb has until May 6 to sign into state law a bill that would give communications companies the all-clear to install utility poles known as small cell towers in any public right-of-way.

Oil changes offered for those in need

Stones Auto Service, a ministry of Stones Crossing Church, will be offering free oil changes and inspections for single mothers, widows and the elderly living in Johnson County. The event will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the church's parking lot 7000 Stones Crossing Road West, Greenwood.

Under construction: INDOT to begin I-65 work as well

Driving north and south in Johnson County will get even more difficult for drivers as road repairs will begin on a third key route next week. Repairs on sections of State Road 135 and U.S. 31 in Johnson County began earlier this month.

Mrs. Curl project delayed

An expanded, year-round Mrs. Curl Ice Cream shop proposed in downtown Greenwood is in limbo, held up by debate over what role the city should take in setting construction standards for the new building. A plan to build a new Mrs. Curl shop was announced in February.
