Jacksonville man charged with trafficking stolen identities in Etowah County

Joey Eromosele Elebesunu, 23, was arrested in June with Shaquaria Nicole Calhoun, 19, of Atlanta after they attempted to purchase cell phones in Gadsden with stolen account information, Natalie Barton with the Etowah County Sheriff's Office wrote in an email on Tuesday. Elebesunu and Calhoun used counterfeit credit cards with real account information to purchase several iPhones in Guntersville and Pell City prior to their arrest in Gadsden, Barton wrote.

Workforce development programs utilize rehabilitated felons

Officials connected with business and government in Etowah County say programs aimed at employed rehabilitated felons are working, turning offenders into gainfully-employed taxpayers. Heather New, president of the Chamber of Gadsden & Etowah County, said interest is growing among employers in several programs that take one-time felons and put them to work.

ALDOT opens bids for three road projects in Calhoun County

State transportation officials last week opened bids for three road construction projects in Calhoun County, including the resurfacing of Alabama 21 through Jacksonville. According to a listing on the Alabama's Department of Transportation's website, the construction project on Alabama 21 is projected to last for 65 working days with a cost estimate between $1.5 million and $1.8 million.

Two Etowah County women arrested for chemical endangerment

The Etowah County Sheriff's office has arrested two 20-year-old women for the felony charge of chemical endangerment of a child. Brittany Ann Spurling of Attalla was arrested Monday, June, 19 after she tested positive for cocaine while pregnant.

Raid turns up drugs, guns, cash; 3 charged including teen girl

The Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit on Wednesday carried out a search warrant at a Seventh Avenue residence. Those arrested were Terry Wayne Yow Jr., 37, Temptation Myell Coats, 18, and Edwin Sims, 37. Task force Deputy Commander Phil Sims said that when lawmen arrived at the home, Coats and Sims fled on foot from the back of the residence.
