Everett is located in eastern Massachusetts, near Boston. The city was originally a part of Charlestown, and later of Malden. Virginia L. "Ginny" Sorenson, 94, of Stoneham, passed away peacefully at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading on Saturday, July 22. Ginny was born in Everett on October 28, 1922, the daughter of the late William J. McAuley and Alice McAuley. She was raised in Melrose where she graduated from Melrose High School, Class of 1940.

Henry was born in Revere on April 10, 1944 to Henry and Marie Rappa. He was raised in Revere and attended vocational school in Everett.

Joseph A. Rossino Sr., 86, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully in Peabody on Saturday, July 8, 2017. Joe was born in Everett on July 1, 1931, and was one of six children of the late Sebastian and Mary Rossino.

Clare Proctor, 90

A resident of Melrose for the past 21 years, Clare Proctor passed away early Saturday morning, July 1, at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital after a sudden onset of overwhelming illness. She was 90 years of age.

Firefighters put out three-alarm blaze in Malden

No injuries were reported among firefighters or residents, Malden Deputy Fire Chief Greg Cavalieri said, as investigators continued to search for a cause of the fire at the three-decker at 49 Stearns St. Crews were called at 12:10 p.m., Cavalieri said, and Malden firefighters were eventually joined by firefighters from Somerville, Medford, Everett, Revere, Melrose, Saugus, and Lynn. There was heavy damage to the third floor because of the flames, plus smoke and water damage to the first and second floors of the building, he said.

Lawrence E. Spinney, 72

Born in Everett on March 25, 1945, he was one of 10 children raised and educated in Everett. As a young man, Butch began his working career at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

MassBay Charitable Foundation Gives Out Scholarships

After reviewing dozens of exceptional candidate applications, The Mass Bay Credit Union Charitable Foundation has selected four graduating high school seniors to receive the 2017 College Scholarships. The awards, $1,000 to each recipient, go to: Noah Dolloff, Timberlane Region-al HS; Ashley Buggy, Mystic Valley Regional Charter School; Sydney Perryman, Tolland HS; and Lauren Critelli, Fontbonne Academy.

Armed robbery reported

Three people were arrested Monday morning, June 26, for their alleged involvement in the armed robbery of an Everett man. Police arrested two Mount Vernon Avenue adults and will summons a juvenile after investigating a claim the three were involved in ripping off the victim.
