Elizabethtown was founded in 1797 and named after the wife of Andrew Hynes one of the cities earliest settlers. They built blockhouses and forts for defense of the area. In 1850 the Louisville and Nashville Railroad Company began construction on a railroad from Louisville to Tennessee that went directly though Elizabethtown. Known locally as E'town the area was the basis for the 2005 Cameron Crowe movie Elizabethtown though the movie was not actually filmed in the area.

Hodgenville woman sentenced for embezzling over $540,000

The former bookkeeper of an Elizabethtown health provider was sentenced this week to 12 months and one day in prison and ordered to pay $541,224.88 in restitution by Senior Judge Thomas B. Russell, for embezzling funds through wire fraud announced United States Attorney John E. Kuhn, Jr. Jeanne E. Goodsell, of Hodgenville was charged in a seven count criminal information, on May 8, 2015 and entered a guilty plea to all charges on June 4, 2015.

The Georgetown News-Graphic reports that Dale Allen Shackelford, 58, was found dead in a house at Crestlawn Cemetery by a contract employee Monday, said Goble, who made the death pronouncement about 1 p.m. Shackelford appeared to have been dead since Saturday, Goble said.
