Hunter Park slated to host annual fall festival Oct. 28

Douglasville Recreation Program Director Kendrick Davis explains the two art-related events that Hunter Park is hosting on Oct. 28. The Evolving Arts of America Art in the Park workshop will take place from 9 a.m. to noon, while the Fall Festival Arts & Crafts Show will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event includes approximately 50-60 vendors, bounce houses for kids, bingo for children and adults, a cupcake walk for children, and a costume contest. There will be prizes for many of the festivities at the event, including for the top three participants in the costume contest.

Villa Rica hires its first city engineer

Bobby Elliott accepted the position on Monday, and will begin his new duties of supervising Villa Rica's various construction and other projects on Oct. 30. "It's been a great learning experience for me," Elliott said of his time in Bowdon. "I wouldn't change it for anything."

West Metro NAACP hosting 'Lunch with a Cop' Saturday

The West Metro NAACP, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and the Douglasville Police Department have collaborated to host the second annual "Lunch with a Cop." The event will be held Saturday at Jesse Davis Park located at 7775 Malone Street from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The purpose of Lunch with a Cop is unity in the community, and to meet and greet residents in the area.

Douglasville City Council votes to annex three parcels of land

Two of the parcels annexed by the city are along Bright Star Road and part of the new 247-500-square-foot Andersen Windows and Door facility. As a part of the construction and meeting the Georgia Department of Transportation's regulations, the SL Bright Star owner/developer -- which is constructing the Andersen Windows facility -- was required to widen the road by 20 feet for traffic purposes.

Film industry continues to grow in Douglas County

An old laundromat in downtown Douglasville was used in filming season two of the series, which will be released Oct. 27. The Steven Soderbergh NASCAR heist film "Logan Lucky," which was filmed in part at the old Douglas County Jail, opened in mid-August.

Lisa Toney, 55, of Douglasville, was killed in the accident that took place at approximately 9:36 p.m. Friday night at the intersection of Burnt Hickory Road and Brownsville Extension in Paulding County.
