Partnership hosting bone marrow donor drive, registry

The Youth Villages AmeriCorps program has partnered with the Douglas County Chamber and the Be The Match to host a bone marrow donor registry drive today, June 23 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Douglas County Chamber at 6658 Church St. in Douglasville. The event will help the thousands of patients living with blood cancers like leukemia or other diseases like sickle cell anemia who need a marrow transplant to survive.

County's jobless rate holds steady at 4.9 percent

For the third month in a row, Douglas County's unemployment rate held just below the 5 percent mark, the Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday. Douglas County's unemployment remained steady at 4.9 percent for March and April and most recently May, a significant decline of four-tenths of a percentage point lower than the 5.3 percent unemployment rate percent back in February, according to GDOL.

BOC approves Sweetwater Master Plan

In a special called joint meeting of the Douglas County Board of Commissioners and the Douglas County Planning & Zoning Board Tuesday night, the Sweetwater Master Plan, formerly called the SW Thornton Road Activity Center Study, was unanimously adopted for the study areas outside of the city limits. According to Douglasville City Councilman Richard Segal, who represents that area within the city, the Douglasville Zoning Board and then the Douglasville City Council, will take this up in the coming months for the area which lies inside the city limits.
