Douglas County authorities have issued warrants for two metro Atlanta women who they said committed insurance fraud by filing false automobile insurance claims. The state department of insurance said 31-year-old Jenea Daniel and 52-year-old Dianne Kirk are the two women who cheated two insurance companies out of more than $21,000.

Citizens air concerns about trucks at city park

In an unexpected turn at Monday's regular Douglasville City Council meeting, several citizens asked the council to look at a previous item during the tail end of their meeting. New tax commissioner touts $4.5M in delinquent collections

New Douglas County Tax Commissioner Greg Baker gave a presentation to the Douglas County Board of Commissioners during Monday's work session, citing total tax collections of over $4.5 million from delinquent real parcels and personal property parcels for school, city and county taxes over a period of Jan. 1 through March 17, 2007. The totals include personal property taxes of $570,805 from 386 tax bills collected; and real property of over $3.9 million from 3,514 tax bills collected, he said.

Crime Beat: Man arrested for cruelty to children

Louis J. Gulliford II, 60, was arrested on March 12 after an incident took place on Sutton Place in Douglasville, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office incident report. Gulliford allegedly maliciously caused a child under the age of 18 "cruel or excessive physical or mental pain by striking [the child] approximately six to seven times with an electrical cord on both shins, both arms and on his face, causing the areas to bleed and bruise," according to the report.
