Carrollton is located in west central Georgia in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. The land once belonged to the Creek Indians and was incorporated in 1829. It was named for Charles Carroll, the last living signer of the Declaration of Independence. The town was featured in the 1983 Murder in Coweta County although no scenes were filmed in Carrollton. The Carrollton man whose twin daughters died in a hot car last summer will continue to under a psychiatric evaluation. The criminal jury trial of Asa North was scheduled to begin Monday, but that has been rescheduled for July while North continues to be evaluated.

County responds to Paulk lawsuit

Carroll County has filed a counterclaim against a local businessman who filed a lawsuit over the denial of a rezoning application and conditional use permit to operate an event center, lodge, pro shop and shooting range. When John Paulk filed the lawsuit back in November 2016, Avery Jackson of Tisinger Vance, P.C., which represents Carroll County, said they were aware of it.

Hot car deaths: Twins' father scheduled for Monday trial

The man charged with leaving his 15-month-old twin daughters in a car last summer is scheduled to go to trial Monday in Carroll County Superior Court. Ada Martel North allegedly left his daughters, Alaynah North and Ariele North, in a car on Tillman Street in Carrollton on the afternoon of Aug. 4 for several hours before they were found unconscious and later pronounced dead at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton.
