Carrollton is located in west central Georgia in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. The land once belonged to the Creek Indians and was incorporated in 1829. It was named for Charles Carroll, the last living signer of the Declaration of Independence. The town was featured in the 1983 Murder in Coweta County although no scenes were filmed in Carrollton. It was also mentioned in both the novel Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell and the movie of the same name.
