Carrollton is located in west central Georgia in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. The land once belonged to the Creek Indians and was incorporated in 1829. It was named for Charles Carroll, the last living signer of the Declaration of Independence. The town was featured in the 1983 Murder in Coweta County although no scenes were filmed in Carrollton. WGTC hosting open basketball tryouts

West Georgia Tech men's basketball coach Niki Okolovitch has announced the program will hold an open workout on Saturday, April 15. The tryout will start at 11 a.m. at Oak Mountain Academy, located at 222 Cross Plains Road in Carrollton. The tryout is open to graduating high school seniors, college transfers and other athletes who are interested in playing junior college basketball.

The excise tax is designed to boost the revenues generated from guests staying at Villa Rica's inns, allowing the city to increase its spending on tourism related projects - and thus attract even more visitors to the city.

School board election needs runoff

Firefighter Clayton Kierbow and logistics/distribution supervisor Jesse Strickland will face each other in an April 18 runoff for the Carroll County Board of Education District 4 seat. Tuesday night's unofficial results showed telecommunications professional Carol Turner Beckham with 24.88 percent, Strickland with 36.84 percent and Kierbow with 38.28 percent of the votes.

Man facing serious charges following high-speed chase

A Carroll County man is in the Heard County jail today after taking a vehicle from a local resident's yard and leading a Heard County deputy on a high speed car chase earlier this week. Michael Ellis Batchelor, age 21,of Carrollton is charged with Theft by Taking , Entering Auto, Speeding, Passing in a No Passing Zone, Reckless Driving, Fleeing & Attempting to Elude, and Violation of Probation.
