In 1924, Carmel installed one of the first automatic traffic signals in the United States at the intersection of Main Street and Range Line Road. It was the invention of Leslie Haines. Today, it is house in the old train station on the Monon. The Carmel Cooperative Preschool will host the Carmel Co-op Pop-up Shop Aug. 27 in hopes of using proceeds to upgrade its playground into an engaging outdoor classroom for science, theatre, engineering and art activities.
