PLYMOUTH – The state will pay $248,000 to settle a wrongful termination suit against Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz by a former prosecutor who claimed he was fired after blowing the whistle on problems in Cruz's office and refusing to contribute to the district attorney's re-election campaign. John Bradley, a former first deputy assistant district attorney in Cruz's office, will be paid $150,000 and be retroactively reinstated for 18 and a half months to allow him to be fully vested in the state retirement system, according to a copy of the settlement agreement obtained by the Patriot Ledger via a public records request.

When you're wanted by police, don't call them to your home

BROCKTON - A city man who called police to have people who were fighting removed from a home Monday ended up trying to call them off when he remembered he was a wanted man himself. State Police received a 911 call about 10:03 p.m. from a man who stated there were people fighting inside a first-floor apartment at 198 Howard St. The man, later identified by police as Yarder Richard Theragene, then hung up the phone, but immediately called back to tell police he wouldn't be at the scene, perhaps realizing he had outstanding warrants himself.

After a months-long investigation, two Brockton residents were taken into custody Friday for a violent North End home invasion in which a victim in a wheelchair was pistol whipped, Boston police said. Neil Tom, 28, and Julie Podier, 25, were charged with armed robbery, home invasion, and assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon for the April 18 incident near 185 Fulton St., police said in a statement.
