Senior prom is right around the corner - though it won't be the class of 2017 that is dancing the night away. The 10th annual Senior Citizen Prom, hosted by the recreation department and the National Honors Society at both Brick high schools, will be held May 5, bringing generations together for a night of dinner, dancing and fun.

Drug suspect in Howell was wearing monitoring device

HOWELL TOWNSHIP -- Three men were arrested April 11 and charged with a number of offenses after police allegedly found them in possession of a large amount of heroin as well as other drugs. Police pulled over a speeding 2017 Chevy Tahoe on Herbertsville Road around 4 p.m., the department said in a statement.

Brick town council members on Tuesday unanimously passed the first draft of an ordinance that would ban the sale of bred puppies. The council wants the ordinance passed and in effect by June 30, when the Breeders Association of America pet store's license is up for renewal.

Power outage in northern Brick impacts 8,100 homes

A massive power outage in the northern section of Brick Township left approximately 8,100 homeowners without power early Sunday morning due to JCP&L equipment failure at the Herbertsville substation. Man charged in overdose death of 26-year-old Brick resident

BRICK -- A man was arrested Thursday and charged with selling a 26-year-old township man a lethal dose of heroin, authorities said. Thomas Palazzolo, 26, was found unresponsive on the bedroom floor of his Brick Township home just before 10 a.m. on Jan. 27. When Brick police suspected his death was the result of a heroin overdose, they contacted the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit and the Ocean County Sheriff's Criminal Investigations Unit.

BRICK -- A pet store is under investigation after at least one dog purchased from the store contracted a highly-contagious virus. A spokeswoman for the Ocean County Health Department, Leslie Terjesen, said the puppy store Breeders Association of America in Brick Township is the focus of an ongoing investigation by county health officials.

NJ puppy store investigated after sick, dying dogs spur fear of parvo outbreak

The Ocean County Health Department is investigating allegations that a pet store sold puppies that died shortly after they were brought home. Spokesman Brian Lippai told New Jersey 101.5 they are investigating complaints made about a couple of puppies sold by a store operated by the Breeders Association of America on Route 70 in Brick.

Proposed apartments pass first review stage

In a split vote, the Nutley Zoning Board of Adjustment voted to grant several land use variances in support of a mixed-use development at 434-438 Centre St., between Prospect St. and N. Franklin Ave. The developer proposes to build a 23-unit, three-story residential building with 40 on-site parking spaces with an 870-square foot office space on the first floor. Plans call for three two-bedroom apartments and nine one-bedroom units on the second floor and, on the third floor there will be two 2-bedroom units and nine one-bedrooms.
