Democrats retain mayoralty and council seats

Democrats retained control in Brick Township with the sweeping re-election of Mayor John Ducey and the Ducey team of incumbent council members. Mayor Ducey was elected to a second term in a landslide victory with 14,349 votes, defeating Republican candidate Ruthanne Scaturro, who drew with 6,751 votes cast in the Nov. 7 general election, according to unofficial results provided by the Ocean Countya SClerk.

As Brick Police EMS responder Anthony Botts climbed the steep, sediment covered driveway, he realized the incline was far too treacherous to safely transport a patient. "We couldn't drive the ambulance up the driveway so we had to walk up the driveway with the stretcher," said Mr. Botts, who was on scene in the U.S. Virgin Islands to assist in Hurricane Irma recovery.

BRICK - A former Brick Township councilman who was facing criminal sexual contact and child endangerment charges pleaded guilty in August to simple assault. Daniel Toth, 40, was accused of touching the genitals of a 15-year-old boy.

On Oct. 18 at 10:21 p.m., Newton police responded to a noise complaint at a boarding house at 96 Main Street, Newton. Upon arrival, a female occupant of the reported apartment answered the door and was identified as Christina Gagliardi, age 33, of Brick, N.J. Gagliardi indicated that a male, who also had been present within the apartment, had fled from police by jumping out of a 2nd story window upon becoming aware of the presence of police.

Town worker admits $940K insurance fraud through her brother's practice

BRICK -- The daughter of a former Brick Township mayor admitted to submitting nearly $1 million in fake insurance claims for chiropractic services from her brother, who leaped to his death with his wife from a Manhattan building this summer. Kim Bogan, a 30-year employee of Brick Township, pleaded guilty in Superior Court in Ocean County on Tuesday to a single count of theft by deception, admitting she stole $941,354 from the town by submitting false chiropractic claims over seven years, the state Attorney General's Office said.
