A Bloomington man was arrested Monday after he allegedly threatened to burn down Planet Fitness in the 3400 block of West Third Street after an argument with an employee According to Bloomington Police Capt. Steve Kellams, police were called to the gym after 45-year-old Jeffrey Riley threatened to burn down the facility with everyone inside.

Woman Arrested After Beating Child With Belt, Dragging Her By The Hair

A Bloomington woman was arrested after she allegedly beat her 6-year-old daughter with a belt and then dragged her across the floor by her hair. Bloomington Police arrested 24-year-old Shanice Williams on a three felony charges of battery causing bodily injury on a child under the age of 14. Police were called to an apartment in the 100 block of East Varsity Lane at 11:10 a.m. after Williams husband said he woke to hear screaming and crying.

Two Hurt In 4-Vehicle Accident On 16th Street

According to a Bedford Police report, 75-year-old Helen Smith, of Medora was traveling east on 16th Street in a 2003 Kia Rio and was in the middle turn lane to make a left turn from 16th Street into the entrance of JayC parking lot. At the same time 59-year-old Daniel Perry, of Springville, was traveling west on 16th Street in the right lane of travel and approaching the main entrance of JayC Plus and had stopped his 2002 Jaguar for the red light.

Three Arrested After Heroin Investigation

Police arrested 50-year-old Michael Stewart of Bloomington on two counts of dealing heroin; 40-year-old Brain Thacker of Ellettsville on three counts of dealing heroin and 40-year-old Courtney Hettle of Bloomington on a charge of maintaining a common nuisance. Police served two search warrants at two different apartments in Building B of Walnut Grove Apartments, at 3100 S. Walnut Street Pike.

Completion date for I-69 in Bloomington pushed back to May of 2018

The Indiana Finance Authority and the Indiana Department of Transportation said Monday a memorandum of understanding has been signed with the I-69 Section 5 developer to assure that four lanes of traffic will open through the greater Bloomington area beginning mid-August and to set a final project completion date of May 31, 2018. "I directed the IFA to work thoroughly and decisively with the developer to resolve outstanding issues and set a firm completion date for I-69 Section 5, and this MOU reflects their efforts," Governor Eric J. Holcomb said.
