Named after its Presbyterian parish Bloomfield was incorporated as a township in 1812. The area was originally settled in 1666 as part of Newark, it was made up of mostly English and Dutch settlers. Bloomfield is most recognizable by Holsten's Brookdale Confectionary, which served as the location for the final scene filmed in the television series The Sopranos.
