Man's burned body found in wooded area in Attleboro

Authorities are investigating the "suspicious" death of a man whose burned body was found near a small brush fire in an Attleboro neighborhood near an Interstate 95 interchange Tuesday, officials said. An Attleboro police officer discovered the man's body in a small wooded area on Prescott Street around 2:50 a.m., said Gregg Miliote, spokesman for Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III, whose office is investigating.

Two men arrested for shoplifting, fleeing from police

Seekonk Police told ABC6 News officers were dispatched to the CVS Pharmacy on Newman Ave around 10:29 a.m., when reports came forward that a male shoplifter was fleeing from the store. The suspect, identified as Kiel Marchand, 31, of Attleboro, M.A., entered a white car and was driven by 34-year-old James Josselyn, of North Smithfield, southbound on Newman Avenue at a high rate of speed.

Attleboro police officer injured in attempted carjacking

An Attleboro police officer was injured while fighting for control of his vehicle in an attempted carjacking around 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Police Chief Kyle Heagney said. Patrolman Joseph Daday, a 13-year veteran of the department, was the first to respond to a report that a man was standing in the intersection of County and Read streets and attempting to enter passing vehicles.

On the day Massachusetts senators banned using hand-held cell phones in the car, police say cell phone usage may have caused a single car rollover Thursday afternoon.  At around 1:30 p.m., Westport Detective Jeff Majewski said police received a call for a rollover on Horseneck Road in the area of the Buzzards Bay Brewery.

Massachusetts woman sentenced to prison for smuggling heroin from Mexico

Thirty-nine-year-old Olga Lidia Sandoval, of Attleboro, was sentenced Thursday to seven years in prison by a federal judge in Providence. She was arrested in May 2016 after Rhode Island police said they found 14 pounds of heroin in the axle of a truck that Sandoval and her co-conspirators were using to smuggle drugs.
