2 arrested for car break-ins in Athens

A man and teen were arrested early Wednesday morning for stealing from vehicles in a parking lot of Red Oak Village apartments on Epps Bridge Road, Athens-Clarke county police said. Responding to a resident's report of the suspicious pair that was walking around buildings and cars at about 5:40 a.m., police said they immediately identified one of the suspects as 19-year-old Nigel Zachariah Turner of Huntington Road, a known gang member.

Athens woman leaves crashed car, gets Uber ride

Steisy Galvez-Vasquez, 20, of Lakeside Drive was arrested early Thursday morning after she crashed a car on the Athens Perimeter, left the wrecked vehicle in the roadway and took an Uber cab to get home, Athens-Clarke County police said. Police said they were attempting to locate the driver when Galvez-Vasquez called 9111 and said that her car had "stopped" on the highway and had since made her way back home, according to police.
