Karis Latoya Arnold, 35, of Vincent Drive was arrested for alleged drunken driving Wednesday night after her car was stopped for weaving on Vincent Drive, Athens-Clarke County police said. Police said they followed the woman's car until it stopped in her parent's driveway, where she failed some sobriety tests and admitted to drinking alcohol on top of taking prescription medication.

Man apppeals conviction for Athens nightclub slaying to Georgia Supreme Court

An Atlanta man serving a life prison sentence for fatally shooting one Athens man and wounding another outside a Commerce Road nightclub three years ago recently appealed his conviction to the Georgia Supreme Court. Corey Antwan Blount, 25, was convicted in October 2015 by a Clarke County jury of murdering 22-year-old Athens resident Derrick Lee Merritt outside the Bootleggers club in May 2014.

Teen found slumped over steering wheel faces drug charges

Thomas Scott Stevenson, 18, of Atlanta was arrested on drug charges early Saturday morning after he was found slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle on North Hull Street with a bag of pills on his lap, Athens-Clarke County police said.

Athens man arrested on abuse, drug charges

James Wilbert Norman, 38, of Lyndon Drive was arrested Saturday following an altercation with his girlfriend in her Laurie Drive home in which he allegedly strangled her and prevented her from leaving the residence, Athens-Clarke County police said. Norman and the victim purportedly had been drinking and smoking marijuana prior to the incident, which the victim said stemmed from Norman's belief that she was cheating on him, police said.
