Man indicted for allegedly sticking gun to woman's head, robbing her

A Clarke County grand jury recently indicted a Morgan County man for allegedly robbing a woman inside her home in west Athens two months ago. Raphael Ramon Thomas, 32, of Madison was charged with armed robbery, two counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to the indictment filed Tuesday in Clarke County Superior Court.

Under a proposal Athens-Clarke Solid Waste Department officials revealed in public meetings this week, downtown bars in Athens' Central Business District could get reductions in the fees they pay for an annual beer license if they switch from glass bottles to aluminum cans or draft beer for the five highest-volume domestic brands of bottled beer - Bud Light, Coors Light, Miller Lite, Budweiser and Michelob Ultra. Ex-Athens cop sentenced to 55 years for child molestation

A Clarke County Superior Court judge this week imposed a 55-year sentence on a former Athens-Clarke County police officer who was recently found guilty of sexually molesting underage boys who were under his supervision as cadets with the local unit of the Civil Air Patrol.
