Aiken is located in southern South Carolina. It is home to Hitchcock Woods which is one of the largest urban forests in the United States. The longleaf pine forest comprises 2,100 acres of forestland resources, approximately a quarter of the town's area. There are over 65 miles of sandy trails that can be accessed from downtown. The woods are open to the public for hiking, dog walking, running, and even horseback riding.
