Addison is located in northeastern Illinois, just west of Chicago. The Salt Creek of the Des Plaines River Tributary runs through the town of Addison. The town was named in honor of 18th century writer Joseph Addison, who is best known as a co-founder of The Spectator magazine. During the 1960s and 1970s Addison was home to the Adventureland amusement park. From 1967 to 1976 it was the largest amusement park in all of Illinois.
